Sonepur: Police have seized unaccounted Rs 55 lakh from a car on the way to Andhra Pradesh from Odisha’s Subarnapur district.
According to sources, a police team was engaged in checking the vehicles as part of pre-election exercise to check illegal transport of money, liquor and arms at College Square in Binka of the district on Saturday.
They intercepted a car going from Rampur at the checking point. On searching the vehicle, the police found bundles of cash in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 100. When counted, the total money was found to be Rs 55 lakh.
Six persons including a woman were going in the car. When questioned by the police, the car passengers said they were going from Rampur to Kakinada in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
As the passengers could not produce any document in support of the currency notes, the police seized those. The police also detained the six persons and were questioning them.
