Rs 67 Cr Collected For COVID-19 Norms Violation In Odisha; Rumour-Mongers Arrested

Bhubaneswar: A whopping Rs 67 crore has been collected for COVID-19 norms violation in Odisha in the last one year.

According to the data shared by the state police headquarters, 7979 cases were registered and 14,312 violators arrested during this period.

Among the arrested, 74 persons were charged for rumour-mongering and triggering panic about the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cases for other violations are as follows

Home quarantine violations: 215

Lockdown violations: 6912

Clash with cops during enforcement: 40

Spreading rumours on social media: 111

The last 10 days have seen over 2000 people being penalised for the violations. While 833 were fined for not wearing mask and 1421 for not maintaining social distancing in the state between March 10 and March 19.

The crackdown on such violation has now been identified amid COVID-19 resurgence fear.  “We are not showing leniency to the violators. Strict actions are being taken against those not wearing masks and maintaining social distance. SPs have been asked to leave no room for complacency,” additional director general (law and order) and head of the state police COVID enforcement cell, Yashwant Jethwa told The Times Of India.
