Rourkela: After an eight-day long operation, a joint team of police,
Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire officials
recovered the last body trapped inside the tunnel of Rourkela Steel
Plant (RSP), on Saturday night. With this all five bodies have been
retrieved.
Another body was brought out from the tunnel in the afternoon.
On June 3, five youths hailing from Sitalapada slum had gone missing
in the tunnel (Outfall-9) of the plant. They were allegedly trying to
steal steel material of the plant. The matter, however, came to the
fore only after family members of one of the victims lodged a
complaint in this regard at Uditnagar police station on June 8.
On June 9, the first body was recovered from inside the tunnel after an
eight-hour-long effort.
