Kendrapada: Noted RTI activist and environmentalist Chittaranjan Behera died at a hospital in Cuttack on Wednesday. He was 72.
Behera, who hailed from Dasipur village in Kendrapada district, was widely recognised for his contributions to environmental conservation and RTI advocacy in the state.
“His death comes as a shock,” another RTI activist Pradeep Pradhan was quoted by TOI as saying.
A former student leader, Behera served as both president and secretary of Ravenshaw College in 1970s while being associated with the Democratic Student Organisation (DSO). He also dedicated over three decades to the conservation of horseshoe crabs and Olive Ridley sea turtles.
Behera is survived by his wife, a son and daughter.
