Bhubaneswar: In the wake of death of 10 persons in accidents in a day even as Odisha is observing “Zero Fatality Week”, Bhubaneswar RTO has warned the truck drivers of heavy penalty for illegal parking.

Speaking to media persons, Bikash Choudhry, Regional Transport Officer (RTO)-1, Bhubaneswar said in both accidents took place involving the trucks parked on roadside. The mortality in accidents was rising because of parking of heavy vehicles in no parking zone, he added.

Considering this, Choudhury said patrolling on roads, particularly on National Highway, will be intensified during the “Zero Fatality Week”. “The truck drivers should park their vehicles in the allotted parking area. In case of violation of the rule, they will be imposed heavy penalty,” he said.

The RTO further said during the “Sero Fatality Week”, traffic enforcement drives would be intensified in various parts of Bhubaneswar. Already the drive is going on to check illegal parking, drunken driving, driving without driving licence and using helmet and underage driving.

It may be noted that two persons were killed as a car rammed into a stationary truck near Pahala on NH-16, which connects the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, late on Friday.

In another accident eight people were killed as their van rammed into a parked truck in Keonjhar.
