Puri: The celestial marriage of Shree Madan Mohan, the living representative of Lord Jagannath, and Devi Rukmini will be solemnised on Jagannath temple premises in Puri on Tuesday.
The marriage is performed on 11th day of bright fortnight of Jyestha month as per Odia calendar on the Vivaha Mandap (marriage altar) inside the temple. The function starts with the evening rituals of the deities.
After offering the prayer, the deities are given a religious bath and attired with new clothes.
The performing priests and sevayats arrange the marriage materials and the marriage is performed as per the rituals. Then the newly married divine couple is taken to Ratna Simhasan inside the main temple. The function ends with the Mahaprasad served to the devotees.
Earlier in the day, Rukmini Haran festival is celebrated inside the temple.
Meanwhile, ‘Charinahaka’ is expected to be installed in the chariots on the day. Though it is done on the day of Snana Purnima, this year the job is likely to be completed two days earlier despite the COVID-19 related restrictions, said chief carpenter of Nandighosh chariot Bijay Kumar Mohapatra.
