New Delhi: With Indian Railway planning several high-speed corridors apart from the one between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Russia has proposed the joint development and production of its Ivolga FG trains in India.
The Ivolga FG high-speed trains are built by Russia’s rolling stock manufacturer Transmashholding (TMH). The Ivolga FG concept has a design speed of 360 kmph.
TMH has proposed joint research and development in high-speed railway technology, using Russian engineering and scientific expertise, as reported by News18.
The Russian company already has a presence in India. It has an India partnership through Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture involving TMH and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). The company is working on the manufacture and maintenance of Vande Bharat sleeper trains for Indian Railways.
Under the project, 120 Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets, each comprising 16 coaches, are being built at the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra.
Manufacturing of the first Vande Bharat sleeper prototype is currently underway at the upgraded factory in Latur. According to RVNL, the first prototype is expected to roll out during the current financial year, by March 2027.
With existing facilities available, TMH is just trying to take the partnership to the next level through the development of an Ivolga FG that would be suitable for India, officials said.
The company seeks to build on its existing partnership and manufacturing presence in India while offering a separate high-speed train concept for the country.
