Goa: A 37-year-old Russian national was arrested in Goa after the body of his reported live-in partner was discovered in a rented room in north Goa’s Arambol, police said, revealing a chilling case involving two murders.

The deceased, identified as Elena Kasthanova, 37, was found on Thursday by the landlord in their rented accommodation with her arms tied behind her back and her throat slit, authorities said, as reported by Hindustan Times. The gruesome

discovery prompted an immediate police probe.

The prime suspect, Aleksei Leonov, also 37 and a Russian citizen, was taken into custody in the early hours of Friday at around 4 am, Goa Police confirmed. During interrogation, Leonov reportedly admitted to the killing and led investigators to the body of a second woman, another Russian national, found in nearby Morjim town.

Both victims were around the same age, and the reasons behind the killings remain unclear as the investigation is in its early stages, police said. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and officers are gathering further evidence, including the alleged murder weapon.
