Bhubaneswar: There have been three attempts on the life of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky since Russia invaded the eastern European last week
Two separate mercenary groups – Kremlin-backed Wagner group and Chechen special forces – had reportedly planned the attacks on the 44 -year-old comedian-turned-politician and these were foiled after anti-war members within Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) alerted Ukraine officials, The Times reported. “I can say that we have received information from [Russia’s Federal Security Service], who do not want to take part in this bloody war,” Ukraine Secretary of National Security and Defence Oleksiy Danilov told local TV stations.
Chechen special forces were killed on Saturday on the outskirts of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, he was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.
Zelensky had earlier said he was the number one target of the Russian invasion but had refused the US’s offer to evacuate him at the start of the war.
