Berlin: With Russia refusing to relent on its invasion of Ukraine and blaming the neighbouring country for stalling peace talks, the Western nations are mulling their next move after a series of sanctions against the Vladimir Putin regime.
On Friday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz invited leaders from G7 countries to a summit on March 24 in Brussels to discuss the war in Ukraine which has been continuing for 23 days.
“The meeting will serve to exchange views on current issues, in particular the situation in Ukraine,” a spokesperson said, Reuters reported.
The G7 is an inter-governmental political forum comprising Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.
The German Chancellor Scholz, during a telephonic conversation with Putin earlier today, called for ceasefire in Ukraine.
Arms shipments to Ukraine will be military targets, says Russia
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign minister Lavrov has warned that all transporters who bring weapons to Ukraine will be declared as legitimate military targets.
Lavrov said Moscow has lost any illusion about relying on the West and will never accept a world order dominated by the United States.
“If there was any illusion that we could one day rely on our Western partners, this illusion is no longer there. What the Americans want is a unipolar world which would not be like a global village but like an American village — or maybe like a saloon where you know the strongest calls the shots,” Lavrov said.
