Sacred Rituals: Jagannath Temple To Remain Closed For 4 Hours Today

Puri: The Jagannath Temple here will remain closed for four hours on Thursday as the sacred rituals of the Lords will be performed during this period.
According to sources, the temple will remain closed from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm. During this period, the sacred ritual of Banakalagi will be performed by the temple servitors. No devotees will be allowed inside the temple. The Jaya-Vijaya Dwar of Shree Mandir will also remain closed.
“The Banakalagi ritual is usually performed on Wednesday or Thursday every week. This ritual will be performed today. It is sacred ritual and the Jaya-Vijaya Dwar will be closed. No devotee can get a darshan during this ritual,” said Jagannath culture researcher Naresh Das.
The Dutta Mohapatra Sevakas generally perform this ritual. Different types of natural colours like Hingula, Haritala, Kasturi, Keshar, glue of Kaintha are used to prepare Banaka, which will be used to decorate the Lords, he said.
