Bhubaneswar: Eminent litterateur and translator from Odisha, Jugal Kishore Dutta, passed away due to old age related illness at his residence here on Saturday. He was 92.
Dutta was born on December 24, 1928, at Maheswarpur village in Jajpur district.
During a long and rich literary career, Dutta had translated a number of famous Odia novels into Bengali as well as Bengali novels in Odia.
He was conferred with the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award in 1997 for translating the famous Bengali novel ‘Asami Hajir’ authored by Bimal Mitra. He had also received the Odisha Sahitya Akademi award the same year for his Bengali novel ‘Jana Gana Mana’.
