Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police (CP) has formed special squads in police stations across the city to deal with the menace of chain snatching.
(DCP) Uma Shankar Das informed this on Monday.
The DCP said each squad at a police station will be headed by one or two officers, who will be assisted by four constables for the specific task of preventing and detecting chain snatchings.
“The squad will focus only on snatching incidents and they will not be given any other assignments. They will closely review the occurrence of crimes like snatching and loot in the city and take immediate remedial actions,” Das said.
“We are hopeful that the squad will be able to keep a check on snatchings within few months,” he added.
According to reports, chain snatchings in the city have become frequent as criminals are having a field day in the absence of effective street patrolling.
