Bhubaneswar: The prestigious Golden Peacock Environment Management Award for 2020 in steel sector was presented to Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) by the Institute of Directors for second successive year.
Appreciating the efforts of SAIL collective for winning the award, Anil Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman, SAIL said, “Getting this award for successive two years bears testimony to the efforts made by the company for sustainable and environmentally responsible steel making.”
Considering various environmental issues leading to global warming and climate change, the award encourages corporates to enhance their environmental performance and to compete with peers to set benchmarks, he added.
SAIL, as its Corporate Responsibility for Environment Protection strives for adopting environmental measures including upgrading of pollution control facilities, treatment & recirculation of wastewater from individual units & outfalls, enhancement in the green cover in & around plants and units and handling of solid wastes, eco-restoration of mined area, a company release stated.
The award was conferred on SAIL in a virtual award presentation ceremony held on December 15.
