New Delhi: Former world number 1 Saina Nehwal was quarantined in a Bangkok hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of her first-round match at the Thailand Open that got underway on Tuesday.
The star shuttler tested positive in the 3rd and last mandatory round of COVID-19 tests ahead of the tournament and was consequently asked by the organisers to isolate herself in a hospital.
As a result, Saina’s opponent in the first round, Kisona Selvaduray, has got a walkover.
Meanwhile, PV Sindhu remains the only Indian in the women’s singles draw at the first tournament on the international badminton calendar which was paused due to the pandemic, India Today reported.
Notably, Saina had recently recovered from Covid-19 and was be keen on returning to form, keeping in mind the Olympic qualification.
