Cuttack: Police on Friday submitted the chargesheet in the sensational Salepur minor rape case before the POCSO Court in Cuttack.
The chargesheet was submitted by Salepur police within 12 days of registration of the case.
The cops have requested the court to appoint a holding investigating officer and one special lawyer for the case.
The accused, Mohammad Mustafa, was produced before POCSO court here on May 4,
Mustafa had allegedly attempted suicide inside Salepur Sub-Jail by hanging himself with a ‘gamcha’ in the toilet on Wednesday night. However, he was rescued by the jail staff.
The Odisha Crime Branch has already designated the minor rape incident as a ‘Red Flag’ case.
The state government had provided an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the victim, who succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on April 29.
On April 21, the girl was rescued from a school veranda and rushed to a hospital in Salepur. There were injuries on her head, face, chest and private parts and scratches on the neck.
She was later referred to the SCB after her condition deteriorated and kept on ventilator support. After a weeklong battle for life, she succumbed to her injuries.
