Samal Barrage Mishap: Body Of Junior Engineer Fished Out After 40 Hours

Angul: Two days after the tragic boat mishap in Samal Barrage in Odisha’s Angul district, the Fire Brigade and the ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) personnel fished out the body of a Junior Engineer in the morning on Saturday.

According to reports, locals found a body floating on the water of the barrage in the morning and informed the Fire Brigade and the ODRAF personnel who rushed to the spot and fished out the body.

The body has been identified as Ramesh Satpathy, Junior Engineer and a native of Berhampur in Ganjam district.

Efforts are on to fish out the body of Ashok Aicha, a native of Parjang block in Dhenkanal district, who was working as an operator of a private company.

The incident had occurred at around 2:30 pm on May 31 when five employees of a contract firm of Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack were carrying out a pipeline survey of a private company. While the survey work was underway, the authorities of the barrage opened the sluice gate. As a result, the boat capsized due to a sudden rush of water. While three labourers of the private company managed to swim ashore, the Junior Engineer and the Operator of the company went missing.
