The arrested have been identified as Budhadev Biswal of Jharsuguda, Rakesh Behera of Bargarh districts of Odisha and Ganga Sagar Ray, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
“A special team was formed to conduct a probe into the bank loot that had taken place on August 3. The team carried out separate raids at different places within and outside the state and managed to nab the accused,” informed Sambalpur SP, Sanjeev Arora in a press conference here.
The leader of the gang is involved in more than 12 bank robberies across the country, the SP said, adding that the trio was wanted by Odisha, Bihar and Chhattisgarh police since long.
Three country-made pistols, 12 cartridges, Rs 1.75 lakh cash, two bikes including one Bajaj Pulsar and seven mobile phones were recovered from the dacoits’ possession.
The criminals had looted Rs 10 lakh at gunpoint from the Jamankira branch of Andhra Bank and later fled the spot with the hard disk of the CCTV camera installed inside the bank in an attempt to destroy evidence.
