Sambalpur Sub-Registrar Surya Narayan Samal Suspended After Arrest In Land Fraud Case

Sambalpur: Sambalpur district sub-registrar Surya Narayan Samal, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in a land fraud case, has been placed under suspension.

According to an order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Samal will report in the office of the Sambalpur District Collector until the suspension is lifted. He will not be able to take any leave without prior permission.

Notably, Samal and four land brokers were arrested last month for their alleged involvement in a fraud using forgery and impersonation to illegally acquire a dead person’s land.

During investigation, police also seized a forged sale deed issued in September 2022 and a reissued sale deed dated January 2025.

Police said that the accused conspired to sell a plot measuring 21 decimal in Unit 14 in

Sambalpur’s Danipali. The “gharabari” kissam plot was originally registered under the name of Binod Gupta, who had passed away in February 2001.
