Sambalpur: A student of Sambalpur University in Odisha was found dead inside a room at Brahmaputra Hostel under mysterious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Suraj Kujur of second-year Economics in the university, was found hanging on Tuesday night. He was a native of Kutra area in Sundargarh district and was staying in a room in Brahmaputra Hostel.
After receiving information, a team of Burla police visited the spot and initiated an investigation.
Suraj was appearing for his uni
versity examinations, although he reportedly did not have any examination scheduled on Tuesday. The incident came to light in the night and university authorities and police were informed.
Preliminary investigation pointed towards suicide but police said the exact cause of death will be ascertained only after the post-mortem report is received.
An official from the university administration said that hostel superintendent Rajendra Behera had reported the incident, following which the warden and faculty members were informed. “The police are conducting their inquiry, recording observations and completing the required formalities,” the official added.
Arrangements have been made for sending the body for post-mortem examination on Wednesday in the presence of family members to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The incident is being investigated from all possible angles, police said.
