Sambalpur: Taking a serious note of indecent behaviour on the camups, Sambalpur University authorities in Odisha have suspended a student for six months for allegedly making obscene gestures to girls.
According to reports, some girl students of the Department of Food Science of the University were returning to their hostel after completing classes on Monday when a final year student of Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology (SUIIT) followed them.
Tension prevailed on the campus after the final year student allegedly made obscene gestures and indecent comments and the university authorities were informed.
The authorities swung into action and a meeting of the disciplinary committee was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Prof Sanjukta Das. The meeting was attended by senior officials including the registrar, hostel wardens and superintendents as well as the Director and Dean of SUIIT.
After holding discussion at length and thoroughly examining all aspects of the episode, the student was suspended from the university campus for the next 6 months as he was found guilty, sources said.
It may be noted here that a 4th year student of the university was suspended for similar behavior in September, this year.
