Sambalpur: A day after a contractual employee of Sambalpur University died by committing self-immolation, police have registered a case against the university’s vice-chancellor for his alleged involvement in the incident.

Burla police registered the case on the basis of a complaint filed by the son of the deceased. He held the university’s vice-chancellor Sanjeev Mittal, PEO Abinash Kar and Warden Biswajit Satpathy responsible for his father’s extreme step.

The contractual worker, Dinabandhu Mishra, poured kerosene on himself and set fire while the university’s academic council meeting was going on in the campus on Tuesday. He was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla.
