Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of BJP has extended its support to the hartal called by VHP in 14 districts in protest against the attack on a rally carried out in connection with Hanuman Jayanti in Sambalpur.

The BJP, in a release on Tuesday, said it is unfortunate and a matter of grave concern that the bike rally, carried out two days before the Hanuman Jayanti, came under attack by some miscreants who resorted to stone pelting. It not only reflected inefficiency of the state government but also the failure of law and order.

In protest against the attack, the VHP has called 12-hour hartal in 14 districts on Wednesday. As a mark of solidarity with the cause of the innocent victims of the violence, the BJP announced its support to the hartal, the release stated.

Earlier in the day, the members of a delegation of the saffron party, who were detained by police while they were on their to Sambalpur city, were released.
