Jharsuguda: Parents of Sambalpuri album artiste Simran Singh on Thursday met Jharsuguda Collector Bibhuti Bhusan Pattnaik and demanded a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the death of their daughter.

The body of 20-year-old actor with multiple injury marks was found under a bridge near Goira Matha in Sambalpur on January 3 morning. Her family had then alleged that she was murdered and her body later dumped under the bridge.

“It seems the family is not satisfied with the police probe and therefore want the case to be handed over to CB.  I will apprise the Home Department about their demand,” the collector said.

Meanwhile, Burla police have registered a murder case in connection with her mysterious death on the basis of a complaint lodged by her father, who alleged that his daughter was being tortured by her husband Dhrubaraj Suna aka Yug and in-laws. A case was also lodged in this connection in Jharsuguda police station, he stated in the complaint.

Following the recovery of her body, a case of unnatural death was earlier registered.

On January 5, Jharsuguda police had arrested Yug after he was detained by Belpada Police in Balangir the previous day for interrogation. He was booked under POCSO Act.

During the interrogation, Yuga told police that they had tied the knot in April last year against their parents’ consent. He, however, denied his involvement in her death.

Hours before police detained Yug, Simran’s last voice message doing the rounds on social media platforms had hinted at a possible suicide angle.

According to sources, Simran was heard crying in the voice message to a male friend, and claiming that she was mentally depressed and going away from everyone.

“I am broken from inside. I would have left everything to come with you had you told me once to take me to your home. Wish you had made efforts to save the relationship. Be happy. I am going away…away from my family and everyone,” she can be heard saying in the voice message.

The actor had sent the one minute and 18 seconds long audio message to her friend through Whatsapp, before being found dead under Mahanadi Bridge.

The actor had gained popularity for Sambalpuri music video ‘Selfie Bebo’.
