Mumbai: IRS officer Sameer Wankhede’s tenure as the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) would end on December 31, official sources revealed on Friday.
The 2008-batch Indian Revenue Service officer, Sameer Wankhede, whose tenure was marked by controversy, was on deputation since September 2020 with the anti-drugs agency.
Wankhede’s earlier posting was with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
As NCB zonal director, Wankhede shot into limelight with his action against the drug syndicates allegedly involving Bollywood stars. This came to the fore after actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide.
A huge controversy erupted in October 2021 when a Wankhede-led team allegedly recovered drugs during a raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast, in which Bollywwod superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan along with others were arrested.
It is not yet clear about his next posting after his NCB deputation ends, according to sources.
