Balasore: The crackdown on the sand mafia in Odisha’s Balasore saw a Revenue Inspector (RI) being run over by a dumper during a vehicle inspection at Ambaliaatha square under Jaleswar police limits on Thursday.
The RI, identified as Dilip Chand, sustained severe injuries as the driver of the West Bengal-bound vehicle crushed his foot in an attempt to flee from the spot. He has been admitted to a nearby hospital.
“We were on enforcement duty along with the Additional Tehsildar. A local vehicle ran over my leg when we tried to prevent it from transporting sand illegally,” said Chand.
Police have started investigating the matter.
