Balasore: The Soro Durga puja pandal in Balasore district is different this year. It has sand in the entire backdrop.
The Sarbajanina Durga Puja Committee has come up with this unique concept near the Thana Square in Soro.
“You can see sand in the entire interior of the pandal. We have given the charge of making the pandal and idol to Kolkata artisans this year,” said committee president Sisira Kumar Das.
“Sand has been pasted on huge plywood boards in the pandal. The pandal is more than 75 feet high and its width is 75 feet. The height of the idol is 16 feet. Colourful lights have also been fitted in the pandal,” said Das.
Cultural programmes will also be held for the entertainment of the people.
“We have arranged Khichdi and Kheer prasad for 5,000 people on Navami,” he informed.
The total budget for Durga Puja this year is around Rs 10 lakh, said Das.
The Durga Puja preparations are almost finished with the cooperation of committee vice-president Sudhanshu Sekhar Samal, secretary Sripatti Jana, Anshuman Chiranjivi, joint secretary Raseswar De, Bhagirathi Ojha, Prafulla Patra, and Sourav Jana.
Around 20 pandals have been constructed in Balasore district.
