Hyderabad: Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently opened up about two highly anticipated films, SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ and his upcoming Prabhas-starrer ‘Spirit’, during a media interaction while promoting ‘Romanchakam’.
Speaking about their release timelines, Vanga noted that ‘Spirit’ is scheduled to hit theatres a month before ‘Varanasi’ and acknowledged Rajamouli’s film as the bigger project.
During a press conference in Hyderabad, a reporter pointed out that ‘Spirit’ is scheduled for release on March 5, while ‘Varanasi’ will arrive in theatres in April.
When the reporter referred to both films as ₹1,000-crore projects, Sandeep was quick to correct him, saying, “Aa film inka peddadi andi (That film is bigger),” while gesturing to emphasise his point.
When asked whether the one-month gap between the two releases would be enough for both films to perform well at the box office, the filmmaker responded confidently, “It will be enough, we have around 37 days. I am thinking it should be enough.”
The reporter continued to question Sandeep about ‘Spirit’ releasing close to another big-budget film.
The filmmaker jokingly responded, “Okay, we’ll shift the date. What? (laughs) Is that what you want to hear? Nothing like that, it’ll be enough.”
Later, Sandeep reflected on the certification of his earlier films, noting that they had all received an ‘A’ certificate, while ‘Romanchakam’ marks the production house’s first ‘U/A’ release.
When asked whether this marked the end of that streak, he joked that regardless of what he does, he is certain the CBFC will eventually give ‘Spirit’ an ‘A’ certificate.
“Spirit will be censored with an A. No matter how hard we try, they will give an A certificate,” he said.
