Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday granted interim bail to ‘Pushpa’ star Allu Arjun in the Sandhya theatre stampede case.
After hearing the quash petition filed by the actor, the high court granted interim bail for four weeks to the actor.
“Saying that he is an actor, he cannot be deprived of his right. As a citizen of this earth, he too has the right to life and liberty,” the court said.
The court also noted that Sandhya theatre had sought security from police on December 4, when the tragic incident took place.
Shooting down the argument by Telangana government that the actor was aware such an unfortunate incident can happen if he pays a surprise visit, the court said, “Is he responsible for the tragedy that happened? What knowledge did he have? He had taken permission.”
Allu was arrested from his residence on Friday morning and sent to 14-day judicial custody by a lower court. The actor then moved the high court.
