Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Saravana Vivek M on Friday assumed charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar.
Vivek, who was serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) Brahmapur, was appointed as Bhubaneswar DCP by the Odisha government on September 22 as part of a four-officer IPS reshuffle.
The 2015-batch IPS officer succeeds Jagmohan Meena, whose resignation from government service was accepted by the Centre with effect from September 11.
Soon after taking charge, Vivek said everyone in the police force must work together as one team to ensure effective policing.
Describing cyber crime as a big challenge, he said people are losing a lot of money to fraudsters and it is necessary to become more empowered to stop cyber crime.
An MBBS graduate, Vivek previously served as SP of Rayagada. He was posted as Brahmapur SP in October 2024.
Meanwhile, 2019-batch IPS officer Abhinav Sonkar has been appointed as the new SP of Brahmapur. He was earlier serving as SP of Dhenkanal.
As part of the same reshuffle, 2022-batch IPS officer Mane Ajinkya Baburao, formerly Additional SP, Paradip, has been posted as SP of Dhenkanal. 2021-batch IPS officer A B Silpa has been posted as SDPO, Bargarh.
