Puri: A panchayat sarpanch was killed and her brother sustained injuries after a hyva truck hit the motorcycle they were riding in Nimapara area of Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday.
Sources said the mishap took place near Delta Chhak in Nimapada when the speeding heavy vehicle knocked down the bike, killing the sarpanch.
The deceased was identified as the sarpanch of Biraramachandrapur panchayat of Satyabadi block.
The sarpanch was proceeding to attend a wedding function with brother when the accident took place.
The hyva truck was seized while its driver fled the spot. A hunt has been launched to trace him. Further details are awaited.
