Bhubaneswar: Sanat Kumar Mohanty has been appointed chairman in-charge of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) following the retirement of the incumbent, Satyajit Mohanty, on Wednesday.
A member of the commission, Mohanty has been allowed to remain chairman in-charge with effect from August 3. He will continue in the post till the appointment of a regular chairman.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1A) of the Article 316 of the Constitution of India, read with Regulation 3 of the Odisha Public Service Commission (Conditions of Service) Regulations, 1952, the Governor of Odisha has been pleased to allow Sri Sanat Kumar Mohanty, at present Member, Odisha Public Service Commission to remain in charge of the Chairman of the Commission with effect from 03.08.2023 until the appointment of Chairman, OPSC under the Clause (1) of Article 316 and enters office as such or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” a notification issued by General Administration and Public Grievance Department said.
A former collector and district magistrate of Khurda, Mohanty held various important posts during his career as a bureaucrat before retiring from Odisha Administrative Service. He was appointed as member of OPSC in August 2022.
“On attaining the age of 62 years, Satyajit Mohanty, chairman of Odisha public service commission shall cease to hold office as chairman of the commission with effect from August 2,” another notification read.
