Cuttack: President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed senior woman lawyer Savitri Ratho as a judge of the Orissa High Court.
“Savitri Ratho will be a judge of the Orissa High Court with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office,” a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice said.
On January 22, the Supreme Court Collegium approved a proposal for elevation of the senior lawyer after having deferred a decision on it in October 2019, when it had given the go-ahead to the name of advocate Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi as a judge of Orissa High Court.
With her appointment, Ratho has become the third woman judge of the Orissa High Court after Amiya Kumari Padhi and Sanju Panda.
Currently, she is posted as Additional Government Advocate of the state government.
She is the daughter of former Director General of Police (DGP) late Prafulla Ratho.
