New Delhi: Bihar’s controversial “Bahubali” politician Anant Kumar Singh suffered a major jolt on Friday after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail in the murder case of rival strongman Dularchand Yadav.

While cancelling his bail, the division bench of Justice M M Sundresh and Justice P V Varale directed the Mokama MLA to surrender before authorities on or before December 1.

The Patna High Court committed an error by granting bail to Singh without weighing the grave nature of the offence and his extensive history of criminal antecedents, the Court observed.

The bench also directed the Bihar Police to complete the probe into the murder within four months.

Singh was recently expelled alongside his wife by the Janata Dal (United) for six years due to “anti-party activities.”

This happened after he openly revolted against the party by campaigning for Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Kumar Singh instead of JD(U)’s official nominee Neeraj Kumar in the Patna Graduates’ constituency Legislative Council elections. He was also accused of using insulting language against the top leadership.

Singh openly rebelled against the party decision, deploying his cadre to actively campaign for the rival candidate. Launching sharp personal barbs against senior party office-bearers, he raised public questions over how the party leadership operates.

Soon after his expulsion, the Bihar government removed his wife Neelam Devi from her position on the State-Level Programme Implementation Committee, revoking her minister of state rank and her entitlement to an official bungalow.

The state government’s Building Construction Department issued an eviction notice to Neelam Devi on October 26, 2026, directing her to vacate her official bungalow at 1, Mall Road in Patna. The action came immediately after the swift political crackdown by the ruling JD(U).

The party, under the direction of state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, also petitioned Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar to disqualify Singh and terminate his Assembly membership under the Anti-Defection Law.

Dularchand Yadav, a regional strongman, was murdered on October 30, 2025, during a violent clash in Mokama Tal while campaigning for the Assembly elections in the state was underway. Yadav was then backing Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi.

There was a clash between supporters of Singh and Yadav after their convoys came face to face on that day.

According to the FIR filed at Ghoswari police station, Singh and his aides allegedly dragged Yadav out of his vehicle, shot him in the leg, physically assaulted him, and ran him over with an SUV.

Singh, however, maintained that the incident was a political conspiracy hatched by a rival politician. He allegedly that Jan Suraaj supporters attacked his convoy first.

Singh was arrested on November 1, 2025, and lodged in Beur Central Jail. He went on to win the Mokama Assembly seat on a JD(U) ticket despite being behind bars.

On March 19, 2026, he was granted bail by the Patna High Court on March 19, 2026. The bail was challenged in the Supreme Court in October 2026 by Neeraj Kumar, grandson of the deceased Dularchand Yadav.
