Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh as chief justice of Orissa High Court.
Justice Singh is currently serving as judge of Patna High Court. The official resolution published on the apex court’s website, said, “During his tenure of more than 11 years as a Judge of High Court, Justice Singh authored 1246 reported judgments, of which 562 were delivered during last 5 years. The Collegium has also taken into consideration the fact that at present the High Court of Judicature at Patna has no representation among the Chief Justices of High Courts.”
The Collegium, accordingly, found Justice Singh fit and suitable for the appointment and resolved to recommend the same.
Justice Singh will succeed Acting Chief Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi of Orissa High Court. President Droupadi Murmu had appointed Justice Sarangi, the senior-most Judge of the HC, as the Acting Chief Justice with effect from October 4 consequent upon superannuation of Justice Subhasis Talapatra, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Justice Talapatra was sworn in as the 33rd chief justice on August 8 for a very brief tenure of less than two months. He retires on October 3, 2023.
Justice Singh enrolled as an advocate in 1990 after obtaining LLB degree from University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre). He was designated Senior Advocate in September 2010 and appointed as Additional Advocate General for Bihar in December that year.
He was elevated as an additional judge of the Patna High Court from April 5, 2012. He was appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in February this year.
