New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to businessman and Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra, models Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey and one Umesh Kamat in one of the cases related to the pornography scandal, the ANI reported.
“Having heard the counsel for the parties, we are of the view that the petitioners may be granted anticipatory bail,” a bench of Justices K M Joseph and B V Nagarathna said while directing Kundra and the other accused to cooperate in the investigation.
On November 25, the Bombay High Court rejected Raj Kundra’s plea for pre-arrest protection in connection with an FIR lodged by Mumbai Police in 2020 for alleged distribution of pornographic content.
Last month, Maharashtra Cyber Police has filed a charge sheet accusing the businessman of making pornographic content for monetary gains. He allegedly shot obscene or porn videos in five-star hotels along with Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey, film producer Meeta Jhunjhunwala and cameraman Raju Dubey, which was then distributed by OTT platforms, E-Times reported.
Kundra had been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act and Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing/ transmitting sexually explicit videos. The FIR named Chopra and Pandey as co-accused.
Kundra had earlier written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) claiming that he is innocent. He had alleged that the case was built on the personal vendetta of a businessman who connived with police officers to get him arrested.
It may be recalled that Raj Kundra was arrested in July last year regarding the alleged creation and uploading of pornographic films on mobile applications. He was granted bail after almost two months.
Earlier this year, the business tycoon took to Twitter and shared a note slamming those trolling him in connection to the case. “One Year Today released from #ArthurRoad. Its a matter of time Justice will be served! The truth will be out soon! Thank you well wishers and a bigger thank you to the trollers you make me stronger
