SC Sets Aside Life Ban On Cricketer Sreesanth; Asks BCCI To Revisit Quantum Of Punishment

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday set aside the life ban imposed on former Indian cricketer S Sreesanth by disciplinary committee of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the 2013 IPL.

Hearing Sreesanth’s plea challenging Kerala High Court’s decision to restore the life ban, a bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and K.M. Joseph directed the board’s disciplinary committee to take a fresh decision on the quantum of punishment within three months.

The verdict, however, will have no effect on the criminal proceedings pending against the former cricketer in the Delhi High Court, where the Delhi Police had challenged a trial court’s order discharging all accused, including Sreesanth, in the spot-fixing case.
