New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a stay on the divorce petition filed by BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty in the Patiala House Court in Delhi.
While hearing the transfer petition filed by his wife and Ollywood actor Varsha Priyadarshini, the apex court advised the counsels of both sides to initiate mutual discussion.
The petition has now been referred to the Supreme Court Mediation Centre and notices served to Anubhav and Varsha to appear before it.
“The court has asked both the parties to amicably settle the matter while granting a stay on further proceeding in the divorce case.,” Varsha’s counsel Krishna Kumar.
On September 19, Varsha had moved SC for transferring the case to family court in Cuttack.
Varsha’s counsel had told the media then that since she is a single woman and doesn’t have any house in Delhi, she would want the case to be shifted to Cuttack. “It’s not easy for her to visit Delhi regularly to appear for the case. Besides, both Anubhav and Varsha have a house in Cuttack, so it would be better for them,” he had said.
Anubhav had also filed a caveat petition under Section 148A of Civil Procedure Code in the SC with a request not to give any verdict on the petition filed by Varsha without listening to his side.
Anubhav had filed a divorce petition in the family court in Patiala House Court, Delhi, in July. A month later, Varsha filed a domestic violence petition against her husband in the SDJM court Cuttack.
