New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Centre to set up exclusive courts for child victims of sexual offences.

The centrally-funded courts will be set up in all districts where 100 or more cases have been set up under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, NDTV reported.

An SC bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddha Bose directed the Centre to set up these courts within 60 days.

The bench said the Centre would have to appoint trained, sensitised prosecutors and support persons to deal with the POCSO cases and also directed the chief secretaries of states and Union Territories to ensure timely submission of forensic reports in such cases.

The apex court also told the Centre to file a status report on the compliance of the order in 30 days.

The matter will come up for further hearing on September 26.
