Mumbai: Popular television actress Hina Khan, a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, has successfully completed her chemotherapy sessions.
The actress, who is now undergoing immunotherapy, took to her Instagram handle on Tuesday to share a selfie in which her radiation burns are clearly visible, along with a positive note.
“Radiated skin scars. Also called radiation burns. It’s ok. The marks will likely fade away over time and we will get through this. There are a thousand beautiful things waiting for you, my girl…Belief, strength, faith, kindness, and gratitude. #Onedayatatime. #Scarrednotscared,” Hina, who has always been vocal about her cancer journey, penned.
Explaining these radiation burns, senior consultant and radiation oncologist at Onco Life Cancer Centre, Talegaon, Dr Gaurav Jaswal said, “These can occur from any of the sources, including medical treatments like radiation treatment for cancer, nuclear accidents, industrial radiation exposure, and prolonged sun exposure.”
“Symptoms include itchy skin, discoloration, pain, swelling, and ulceration in severe cases. Taking extra precautions to care for your skin during and after radiation therapy can help protect it and aid healing,” he added.
Highlighting that most radiation burns are mild, and can be easily treated, Dr Jaswal said, “In fact, many people don’t notice symptoms until a few weeks (or about a quarter of the way) into treatment and some people don’t develop radiation burn until after their final session. Numerous existing medicaments and dressings are available to prevent and treat, but use them only as per the guidance of your treating physician.”
“The only signs to worry about and warrant immediate medical attention will be high-grade fever, foul-smelling discharge from burn site, and the concerned region being warm to the touch and discoloured,” the doctor warned.
Last year, after sharing that she was diagnosed with cancer, the actress regularly updated her fans about her journey.
“Hello everyone, I want to address the recent rumours and share some important news with all the Hinaholics and everyone who loves and cares for me. I have been diagnosed with Stage Three breast cancer,” she shared.
She added, “I am strong, determined, and fully committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger. I kindly ask for your respect and privacy during this time.”
Hina was recently seen in the OTT show ‘Griha Laxmi.’
Hina has featured in popular daily soaps such as ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’ and ‘Naagin 5’ and also in the Gippy Grewal-starrer Punjabi comedy film ‘Shinda Shinda No Papa.’
