Cuttack: Taking note of the rising trend in coronavirus cases in Cuttack district, the state government has decided to add 100 beds in the COVID hospital at SCB Medical College and Hospital premises.
Commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Ananya Das told mediapersons that there are 1200 general beds and 300 ICU beds in Cuttack city, including those at SCB.
“As we now see that the rate of shifting of patients to COVID hospitals in Cuttack is 10 per cent, of which 3 per cent are admitted in the ICU, there is a need for more ICU beds. So we are trying to rope in more private hospitals and increase the number of beds. Efforts are also on to arrange an additional 100 beds in SCB of which 41 will be ICU beds, 40 HDU (High Dependency Unit) beds and 19 general beds,” she informed.
She further said that about 40-50 per cent of beds in the COVID Care Centres (CCCs) in the city has been filled up.
Providing the latest data on COVID-19 cases, Das said that out of a total of 3685 active cases in the city, 88 per cent of the patients are in home isolation.
Referring to the rush of patients in the city for admission to COVID hospitals, she said as most of the patients in home isolation are recovering from the virus, patients with mild and asymptomatic symptoms should remain at their home and make way for admission of critical patients.
“However, in case of emergency or in case they have the antigen-negative report despite the symptoms, they can call the COVID control room 7077775555 or the toll-free number 18003458289,” the CMC Commissioner pointed out.
