Cuttack: The premier SCB Medical College & Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack plans to open a heart transplantation unit. The institute has sent a proposal to the state government in this regard.
According to Prof Manoj Patnaik, head of Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, the department was fully equipped to start a heart transplantation unit.
The department successfully conducted open heart surgery on about 200 patients last year.
According to Prof Patnaik, as far as heart transplant surgery is concerned, Odisha has more recipients than donors.
