Bhubaneswar: The SCB Medical College and Hospital will be transformed into an AIIMS plus hospital, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday said.
The announcement came after the CM held a meeting with SCB authorities, students and other stakeholders of the premier medical college in the state.
He said that the transformation will see the creation of a state-of-the-art 3000-bedded integrated medical facility.
“We should be able to compare ourselves with the best in the country. Our aim should be to make it an AIIMS plus institute,” the CM said.
The upgradation exercise will entail an investment of Rs 1000 crore and the transformation will be such that no patient from the state will need to go outside for treatment, he added.
The infrastructure will be matched with the best of accommodation and recreational facilities. The ecosystem will be such that medical professionals settled outside will aspire to serve and come here, the CM said.
Naveen exuded confidence that SCB Medical College and Hospital will become one of the top three institutes in the country.
Earlier in the day, Secretary to the CM (Transformation and Initiatives) V Karthikeyan Pandian, visited the medical campus, interacted with patients and held a meeting with hospital authorities to review the state of healthcare, infrastructure and other facilities.
