Puri: Long power outage and adverse weather conditions made the classrooms dark and forced students of several schools of Puri Sadar block to write their exams under candle lights recently
According to sources, power supply was reportedly interrupted in the area from Tuesday night and was restored on Wednesday afternoon. Students from Class III to Class VIII who were appearing in their English examination in the first sitting from 7.00 am to 9.00 am and those of Class VI to Class VIII appearing in their Sanskrit exam from 9.00 am to 11.00 am were not able to write because the overcast condition which made the classrooms dark. Candles were thus arranged for them.
The incident has caused unhappiness among the parents who blame the Energy and School & Mass Education Departments for the inconvenience caused to children.
“Students from Class I-VIII were appearing in the Summative II exam. It was raining heavily all over Odisha. Maybe because of that power supply was disrupted,” Puri District Education Officer (DEO) Dipak Padhy told media.
He, however, also expressed happiness at the infrastructure development at several schools and said schools where invertors and water purifiers have not been installed yet, will get those soon.
