Bhubaneswar: In view of incessant rain triggered by deep depression, Odisha government is likely to extend closure of schools for the safety of students if downpour continues.
Announcing this on Thursday, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said that lessons missed by students due to repeated heavy rain would be covered through additional classes.
Notably, several parts of Odisha have been witnessing continuous rain under the influence of the deep depression. In view of the situation, Collectors of several districts have already announced closure of schools for two days. If the weather condition does not improve, the closure period may be extended further.
The Minister said that the academic calendar is being affected as schools are being shut frequently due to incessant rain. Students’ studies have also been hampered. However, to compensate for the academic loss, extra classes will be conducted if required.
Officials said at least seven districts of South Odisha have been particularly affected by the deep depression. The decision regarding further closure of schools will be taken by respective district administrations depending on the weather and ground situation.
