Balangir: President of a high school managing committee was arrested on Wednesday in connection with alleged locking up of four girl students in a washroom in Odisha’s Balangir district.
The incident had taken place in a high school at Buromal under Turekela block and Kantabanji police limits in the district.
Sources said some students of class X were allegedly scolded on Tuesday afternoon by managing committee president Sadanand Banchhor on the school premises. Scared over this, the girls entered a toilet to escape his wrath. However, the accused later locked the door from outside.
The girls then cried in panic and requested Sadanand to open the door and let them come out. After around 30 minutes, the president opened the toilet door.
Angry over the incident, the four girls and their parents lodged a complaint with Kantabanji police late last night. Based on their complaint, the police arrested Sadanand as per the provisions of the POCSO Act.
On being informed, the block education officer (BEO) of Turekela also reached the school and took stock of the situation.
