Baripada: Odisha Higher Education Department has suspended the Headmaster of Sananai High School in Jasipur block of Mayurbhanj district, on corruption charges.
Headmaster Sunaram Marandi’s suspension came after a protest by women self-help group (SHG) members who were engaged in cleaning work in the school. They demanded action against Marandi for not paying their dues.
According to sources, Marandi allegedly did not give the SHG members the monthly allowance provided by the government for their housekeeping work. There are also allegations against him for swindling money from the funds meant for mid-day meals (MDM), school uniforms, stipends and bicycles for the school children.
Marandi was suspended recently after the protesting SHG members locked the school gate and did not let anyone in.
