Schoolgirl Among 2 Killed, 5 Hurt In Different Road Mishaps In Odisha

Balangir: A schoolgirl on a cycle was run over by a speeding car at Huguda on NH-59 in Balangir district on Tuesday.

Sources said Padmini Mallick of Dhumasu village was on her way to school and died on the spot.

By the time the police arrived, residents had stopped the car and detained its driver. They had also blocked the Bhangumunda-Bhalumunda road, demanding compensation for the next of kin of the dead and immediate action against the culprits. The police have started investigations.

In another incident, a person was killed and two others sustained critical injuries in a road mishap near Puliajodi under Karanjia Tehsil in Mayurbhanj on Tuesday.

Three others were critically injured after a vehicle fell off a bridge near Rugudiyapara in Angul district the same day. The police reached the spot and sent the injured persons to a nearby hospital.
