Bhadrak: With incessant rainfall lashing the region, the Bhadrak administration in Odisha on Tuesday ordered the closure of all government, government-aided, and private schools across the district as a precautionary measure.
According to officials, schools operating under the Central
Kitchen model will remain open briefly to serve the mid-day Meal to students before suspending all academic activities for the day. The move aims to ensure student safety while maintaining essential nutrition support.
The decision was prompted by the prevailing wet weather and forecasts indicating intensified rainfall over the next 24 hours and beyond. A cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal is driving the active weather system, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipating the formation of a low-pressure area that is expected to further enhance rain activity across Odisha.
IMD forecasts point to heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly affecting northern and coastal districts of the state, including areas like Bhadrak, Baleshwar, and Mayurbhanj.
Similar precautionary measures have been taken in parts of Odisha in the past during comparable monsoon spells influenced by Bay of Bengal systems.
