Malkangiri: With state government leaving no stone unturned to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Malkangiri district administration has turned higher primary schools in 111 panchayats into quarantine centres to house the infected people.

In these schools, each room will be provided with eight beds for quarantining the suspected cases. Here, people will be kept in isolation for 14 days and tested for COVID-19. If their swab tests are negative, then they will be allowed to go home, sources said.

Speaking about the quarantine centres, the officials said, “People living in small houses with more than a single family member in one room can also be shifted for quarantine. Some people who have returned to the district from other states or are facing ostracisation can also be housed in the quarantine centres.”

Besides the primary schools, Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH), Old Hospital and Malkangiri B.ED College have also turned into quarantine centres with around six hundred beds for the patients.

Every quarantine centre will be provided with basic facilities such as electricity, water supply, toilets, mosquito nets, bed covers, sanitizers, hand wash and soaps.

People are being advised to consult a doctor immediately, if they suffer from fever, cold, cough and body pain.

As per reports, a temporary health centre will also be opened at Balimela NAC with 300 beds.

The government is planning to open at least one quarantine centre which can accommodate 50-100 persons under every panchayat in the rural areas.
